If a particular page on a site does not load for some reason or if a link is not working, the site visitor will see an error page with a generic message. The page will have nothing in common with the rest of the Internet site, that may make the visitor leave your site. A possible solution in such a case is a function made available from some hosting service providers - the ability to set your own custom-made error pages that will have identical design and style as your Internet site and that may contain any text or images that you'd like depending on the specific error. There are four well-known errors that may take place and they involve these so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your browser sends a bad request to the server and it can't be processed; 401, in case you are supposed to log in to see some webpage, but you haven't done so yet; 403, if you do not have a permission to see a particular page; and 404, in case a link that you have clicked leads to a file that does not exist. In all of these situations, site visitors will be able to see your customized content instead of a generic error page.

Custom Error Pages in Shared Hosting

The personalized error pages function is offered with every single shared hosting plan which we offer and you will be able to swap all of the generic pages with your own with no more than several mouse clicks inside your Hepsia hosting CP. You shall need to produce the actual files and to upload them to your account, then to set them for a specific domain or subdomain via the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia CP. You may do this for each and every Internet site hosted in the account separately, so that every set of customized pages shall have the same layout as the site it's part of. When necessary, you could always revert back to a default page from our system or to the default Apache server page. A different way to set personalized error pages is to create an .htaccess file inside the domain/subdomain root folder and to add a few lines in it. If you have not done this before, you may simply copy the required code from our Help article about this.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Hosting

All Linux semi-dedicated packages that we provide support customized error pages and it will not take more than a couple of mouse clicks inside your Hepsia website hosting Control Panel to use this function. The option is included in the Hosted Domains section of your Control Panel where you will have to enter the links to the custom-made files using very simple drop-down menus and an easy to work with interface. Of course, you should upload them in your account before that. In case you do not want to use this function at some point, you can easily deactivate it just as fast and select an Apache server page or a default page from our system to be viewable when your visitors encounter an error. If you prefer, you may also use an .htaccess file to enable the custom error pages. The file needs to include a specific line of code and a link for every error type and you may find an example of the entire content for all four error types in our Help section.
